my thoughts on podcasting

just read kenneth's latest email so here's my two cents worth....

i have to confess i was one techno-idiot who gradually showed my boredom through my constant fidgeting and slouching.

i guess 2.5hours is a bit too much for someone completely foreign to anything to do with the Mac.

much less about podcast or even common computer processes like changing the format of your file to MP3.

i was a little skeptical too about podcasting content related to geography. after lunch, rezal let me listen to one of his educational podcasts (the other was a very passionate Martin Luther King and his "i have a dream" speech). it was a French language lesson and i could see how the podcast was very useful when it comes to learning a language. in fact i thought that could be one of the ways in which i can pick up a few phrases myself!

but geography?

maybe geography to me has always been all about the visual. seeing pictures, photos, videos, slides, rock samples.....i cannot imagine how a visually handicapped person will be able to enjoy the subject as much as i do. the magic about geography is being able to see it being played out around you, be it physical or human geography. it's all around us.

hence i see it as a challenge. to create a podcast about geography that is interesting...that will not turn the average listener off after the nice little musical intro at the start. it is hard to imagine a completely audio geography, but that is the challenge, isn't it?

i guess the good thing is we can include other media like pictures...but i was thinking more about people downloading it into their MP3 players and listening to it on the train :) learning on the go!wonder if it is possible to see the pictures too? for those with the iPod photo?

other than that, naturally i'm quite apprehensive about coping with the technology...although i'm lucky to have mac-fanatic rezal in my group to figure out all the tough parts, i guess it'll be good if i can overcome my distaste for all things related to the computer. can't always rely on others to sort out my techno problems for me.

oh i actually talked in my other blog about how my next object of desire is the iPod. my toshiba is still serving me well so i can't lust after an iBook yet. for the iPod, it's still more a want than a need actually...although the lines are blurring. haha. all i need is to listen to rezal or kenneth extol the virtues one more time and i'm afraid i might just be pushed over.
